In addition to providing opportunities for students to develop their curriculum skills and knowledge, our school engages students in activities that extend beyond the classroom and enhance their development. These include:
Learning Journey:
Learning Journey night is held annually in the last week of Term 1 and 3. The atmosphere is always positive, classrooms display plenty of high quality work showing students learning and progress. Our average parent attendance over the last 6 years has been 72%. Parent feedback has been particularly positive.
Incursions and Excursions:
Students participated in a range of incursions and excursions that were designed to extend the in-class curriculum opportunities. Some of these included:
Harmony Day:
This promotes a focus on cultural tolerance and understanding. This is traditionally well supported by parents who provided enormous amounts of culinary delights from all over the world – also sharing stories of their own cultural background.
National Reconciliation:
Both our year 4 classes asked Mrs Simpson, one of our teachers and an indigenous elder, questions about her culture and role in the community.
Bike Week:
Many students take the opportunity to ride to school over the course of this week. The Denmark Mountain Bike Club regularly hosts a breakfast and conducts mountain bike clinics for our students.
Book Week:
Each year staff from the Denmark Town Library pay us a visit, reading stories to the kindy classes. We also host a student and staff Book Week Character Parade. Other highlights are visits to the town library to hear authors, storytelling and book reading sessions, a staff readers theatre performance for our students and the scrumptious shared lunches so generously prepared by our wonderful parents and carers.
